HEIDI SHAFER, elected to the County Commission in August of 2010, is a farm girl from Nebraska. She is a graduate of Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. She has a bachelor’s degree in education.

Upon moving to Memphis to teach, she taught at Christ the King School. Following her marriage and the birth of her daughter, she became quite involved serving on many boards and committees at school, church, and the community.

Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell was born in Jackson, Tennessee, spending his early years in Bells, Tennessee. His family moved to Memphis as he entered his teen years. He is a graduate of Bartlett High School, Union University, and the University of Memphis.

In August 2010, Mark was elected Shelby County Mayor. He has since led several successful initiatives in economic development. Many of those successful efforts he will cover today.

A member of Second Baptist Church, Mayor Luttrell and Pat his spouse have three children and six grandchildren.

January 2016: Mary Wagner

The Cordova Breakfast Club meets Thursday, January 21, 7:30-9am at Danver’s Restaurant, 1380 No. Germantown Parkway in Cordova.

maryteampageMary Wagner is a life-long resident of Shelby County. She attended law school at the University of Memphis, graduating magna cum laude. She is with the firm Rice, Amundsen & Caperton PLLC. Mary has a general practice with emphasis on family law and non-profit/business organization and defense. She chairs the firm’s appellate practice group.

Mrs. Wagner has been involved in Republican politics in a many ways. She serves as the State Executive Committeewoman for District 33 and Bylaws Chair for the Shelby County Republican Party. She has served as the Chair of the Shelby County Young Republicans and member of their board, the District 95 representative for the Shelby County Republican Party, and numerous other committees for the SCRP. She served as Parliamentarian for the 2011 and 2013 SCRP Convention. In 2014, Mrs. Wagner was awarded the Chairman’s Award at Lincoln Day. With the SCRP and Young Republicans, she volunteered for numerous Republican candidates’ campaigns.

Mrs. Wagner and her husband, Tom Owen, reside in Memphis and have a son, Ben.

November 2015: Brian Kelsey

The Cordova Breakfast Club meets Thursday, November 19, 7:30-9am at Danver’s Restaurant, 1380 No. Germantown Parkway in Cordova.

BRIAN KELSEY serves as state Senator for Cordova, East Memphis, and his hometown of Germantown, Tennessee. He is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

In November he became the first legislator in Tennessee history to sponsor two successful amendments to the state constitution: one of those forever prohibited a state income tax, and the other followed a Founding Fathers model for selecting appellate judges. He also sponsored the governor’s comprehensive tort reform act in 2011.

In 2014 Senator Kelsey passed a law to prohibit ObamaCare Medicaid expansion in Tennessee. He has passed a school voucher bill through the Senate that he hopes will pass in the House this year.

Now in year 6 at the state Senate, Senator Kelsey chairs the Judiciary Committee. He also serves on the Senate Education and Government Operations Committees.

Previously, Senator Kelsey was for 5 years a state representative. He served as House Republican Floor Leader and as Judiciary Civil Practice Subcommittee Chairman. Brian is a probate and civil litigation attorney with the Kelsey Firm.

October 2015: Terry Roland

The Cordova Breakfast Club meets Thursday, October 15, 7:30-9am at Danver’s Restaurant, 1380 No. Germantown Parkway in Cordova.

Terry RolandWe are very glad to have the Chairman of the Shelby County Tennessee Board of Commissioners as our October speaker.

Chairman Roland was elected to the Board of Commissioners in August of 2010 and was reelected in August 2014. Roland was elected Chairman Pro Tempore for 2014-2015 and Chairman last month.

Chairman Roland grew up in Millington, graduated from Millington Central High School and attended the University of Memphis. For eight years he was Area Coordinator with Employer Support of the National Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

The Chairman’s work ethic derived from his mother and father as he worked in the family businesses. He and his spouse, the former Christi Tedington, reside in the Shelby Forest area.

Commissioner Roland is a former Vice Chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party and is the Republican State Committeeman for Senate District 29. He served on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Lottery, Professional Care Services and First Citizens Bank. As a past president of the Rural Action Group (RAG), Terry and this group successfully fought annexation by Memphis.

He is a member of the National Rifle Association, the Millington Chamber of Commerce, and First Baptist Church in Millington.
