Our guest speaker this month is Shelby County Sheriff Bill Oldham.

Sheriff William “Bill” Oldham became Shelby County Sheriff 01 September 2010. He is a native Memphian having graduated from Catholic High School and attending Memphis State University. He is a graduate of the 33rd Session Memphis Police Academy then beginning his career with the Memphis Police Department in 1972 rising through the ranks retiring in 2000 as Interim-Director. He served in many roles with MPD receiving many awards for his service. Sheriff Oldham is a graduate of the 21st Session of the F.B.I.’s National Executive Institute.

In 2002, Sheriff Oldham became Chief Deputy for Shelby County until 2010. As sheriff, his leadership brought the law enforcement division national accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement. He also instituted Data Smart Policing, leveraging technology to reduce the crime rate.

In 2011 he was appointed by Governor Bill Haslam to the Tennessee Corrections Institute Board of Control and has served as the board’s chairman for the past three years. Since becoming sheriff the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has received the prestigious “TRI ARC” Award. Along with the Triple Crown Award, it has made the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office one of the most decorated law enforcement agencies in the country. Sheriff Bill Oldham has received many personal awards and recognitions as an effective law enforcement officer and citizen of Shelby County. He serves on boards and is a member of many law enforcement associations and other organizations.

Sheriff Oldham is very involved within his church community. He and his wife are members of St. Louis Catholic Church. Bill and Jean Oldham are married since 1972 and have three children and five grandchildren.
